I confess.  I'm not a native to Pearsall.  But the number of natives who remind me that I didn't arrive here until I was in second grade dwindles with time.  My grandfather, Sid Williams, Jr. settled in this area just after World War One and my dad (Sid III) moved us from San Antonio to the ranch in 1968 after my grandfather died.  It seems everyone of that generation knew my grand father and thought highly of him.  The same goes for my dad, who was Frio County Judge for 16 years. So, as you can imagine, the pressure is on to treat you right!

I graduated from good old PHS (Go Mavericks!) in 1979 and then Texas Tech University (Go Raiders!) in 1983 with a degree in Agricultural Economics.  Some of my grade school teachers are now teaching my kids!

Shortly after college and the mandatory piddling phase, I got a job at a local office which, not coincidently, sold insurance and real estate.  It was an invaluable learning experience that lasted just about 5 years.

In 1989, with all I had and a small loan from my dad, I bought the land across from Wal-Mart and moved in a less than impressive portable building.  Thus began the Stephen Williams Agency.  I suspect three factors got me off on the right foot.  First, the reputation my family earned before me.  Next, my relationships  I established during my "apprenticeship".  And certainly not least, I just happened to coincide my venture with another new venture in Frio County in 1989; horizontal drilling.  (At my church, that would be called "prevenient grace".)

Twenty-three years later I'm happy to report things are going swimmingly! I've sold lots and lots of real estate in those years and learned a lot along the way.  I have also developed many good relationships with all the people associated with real estate in this area.
